COVID disrupted world's commerce, livelihoods, behavioral patterns & communication - the unexpected and uncertainties became the 'norm'

I have always used the lull period to pick up additional qualifications (of interests) & skill sets

These don't make me richer but certainly allow me to re-arm and adjust to my preferred paths - a desire that weren't fulfilled in earlier years & allow me to ease into changes

Every responsible adults strive to put 3-good meals on the table & care for the well being of the family

At worst, he'd take one meal but provide the family with 3(meals)

His life will be disrupted when he needs to struggle to have one (meal) & the family has only one as (he) lost employment, is underemployed, faces inflation & higher costs of living and if ill-health befalls

Disruption is due to sudden change & is unplanned

Alas, a simple bowl of steaming-hot rice is, at times, life and death

2023 is a year of uncertainty but blessed with opportunities - who dares win

StockMarket, lead by US DJIA, S&P500 and NASDAQ, has potential to disrupt. Secondary markets like Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia & Singapore are worth a second look. Any sharp drop into late March/early April is a Trading BUY - be selective & do your homework - 看好就收 - 小钱要疼 大钱要狠

Fortunes are made by the Smarts & Braves but not the Reckless; many want to make money but few want to do their homework

More importantly, stay fit & healthy - with health, much more can be achieved

COVID had forced everyone to a standstill - lockdown, immobilized, quarantined 

Many were killed as the evil winds blow and engulf - the darkness of life dawned upon Mankind

There is a time for everything - live the moment well

The middle age take the challenges & manage the expectations whilst the elderly has lesser to nil expectations, hence less disappointments - patience is a necessity to preservation

Man in a hurry will always hit the wall - if you force open the pupae, the butterfly dies. If you forced open the butterfly's wings when it evolve from the pupae, the wings are damaged as the natural drying allows the wings to harden & ready for flight

I have witnessed many people waddling deep in dilemmas but repeating their chores, commitments and actions 

Not that they are enjoying the sufferings but they plausibly think "things/he will change". Doing the same & expect a different result is a Fool's strategy

A compulsive gambler, serial drug addicts & abusive partners are least likely to change... one more time is untenable 

The baby cries on arrival - knowing that his birth is the beginning of challenges, sufferings and acceptance

Upon death, the others cry - he has completed his finite lifespan, not necessarily fulfilling all that he wanted to achieve

Many who died yesterday have plans to do something today while those who die today have plans for many tomorrows... cherish every living moments

Live healthily, happily and avoid being drawn into others conflicts, especially the "none#of#your#business" -  瞎忙 - 无聊无底洞

Not that we lack compassion but the current environment is one of uncertainty, aggressiveness (scams & con), hopes (hopeful vs hopelessness) but 'home is where blessings are'; the only safe abode

When in doubt or mentally drained, take a walk in the park, along the coast or through the forest - Nature is therapeutic & restorative - the painless antidote to restore a balance of sanity

Many years ago, I was accused & gunned down at the peak of my career by overzealous authorities who schemed to gain from my downfall. They plotted & pinned a 'crime' on me by getting my deputy "to point her finger at me"! I have a choice to mount a costly & mentally draining fight (indicative legal fees S$2m over a two years fight) or PG & walked away with some damages - personal, reputational & financial. I chose the latter

I recoiled into my cocoon, walk away to reflect, take stock of the damages, reassess my 'ammunition & reserves', took a new path least traveled and returned a new-self after some years - it was never easy - 苦中做乐 活在当下 

NOBODY, NObody, nobody will ever understand my journey through the darkness especially that I did not do anything wrong but I readily accept that "this world will never be equal" & let go...

Whatever decisions we make now, is the best; there is no time for regrets 世上没有后悔的药 也没有如果 只有结果和因果

Almost three years ago, I experienced the reality that 'death is real & can pop up out of nowhere'

Were I scared? No...but the shadows of death surfaced readily 

The fear turned towards those closest to me - the losing of anyone close

I dropped the desire to chase material wants, not that I am materialistic, but i begin to treasure relationship above all else except health

When you were born, your undated death certificate was issued - life and death are destiny but anything in-between is a choice. You may be born poor but you can plausibly die rich

Just then I experienced another bout of defeat; the relationships that I treasured were taken advantage of - people asked for help and i readily gave, only to realize that these people disappeared after they've gotten whatever they wanted

There weren't an iota of 'gratefulness‘  恩与情也变成身外物   

Since I am fearless in the face of deaths, betrayals are amenable & acceptable - nobody lives forever

When i am thirsty & dehydrated, a drop of water saves & gratitude stays

I begun to practice what I've preached; "be suspicious of others intentions & needs" for they'd walk away with the trophy without giving it/you a second thought

Revenge & quarrels are not the solutions! Instead of wallowing in self-pity, regrets and count the losses, the energy is best used to distance away from these scumbags, become persona non grata & be scarce

Some day, they may look back in need of help ... desperately ... except the door is closed  

I have been defeated innumerous times over the last many years but my good LORD/GOD keeps me going - the Spirit is bright and the heart is light

Pains & hurts pass as daylight and daybreak washes away darkness

A man who experiences 酸甜苦辣 know the senses of life & the seasonal changes 春夏秋冬 teach us when to slow down & do the right things right

春 - Time to harvest & enjoy your fruits

Opportunities In 2023 & Beyond

I expect the 1H/2023 to be equally uncertain and unpredictable

The scourge of Covid will extend its "Last March" against Mankind

It's not about China or anywhere else; it's an universal threat

Those who blame China for suspending quarantine & opening up are blissfully forgetful that they were the same ones who cursed China for locking-in & forbidding cross borders travel. Do you think China is indifference to their (own) people's sufferings? No. The next death could be anyone;  bureaucrats, officials, peasants...

The world must unite to fight against the unknown - viruses, diseases, aliens

The financial markets has rebounded from their lows after China frees most restraints;  the love-hate relationships with China borders on fantasy

When China announced the lifting of quarantine & opens the borders for intra & overseas travels, the world recognized this as the opening of "the world's workshop, the wealthy travelers, the massive tourism possibilities, the untap flows of businesses..."

On the other hand, any worsening of Russia/Ukraine war will dent hopes of further economic recovery. US+Europe (the Mule of the West) are & look bent of fueling the conflict

The idea that the cold war fought in other's home is better than on my soil is an illusion with ICBMs, SLBMs, stealth fighters and the loads of supersonic drones  

My bet is:

SCSeas : Accidental war between China and Taiwan is less likely to happen than a Korean Peninsula conflict that will draw in Japan, Taiwan, US+allies & China+Russia. Without the West supplying arms, the East will rather farm the land than fight - the West fights over ideology whereas the East fight over hunger

World economy : Capital (stock) markets will decline as recession sets in as the recovery from post-Covid is battered by supply chain disruptions, higher commodities prices, rightists policies & hoarders of supplies. On balance, Asia should fare better than the West

The Globe's Better Half : The West will be paralyzed by political adventurism, military complex lobbying and their inability to stand up against untruthful propaganda while the East will be more 'stable' as the people struggle for stability in an unstable world, eking out a living & biting time for peace to return   

Nuclear War : This is anybody's guess but I am not surprised that "if push comes to shove, any of the big powers will press the buttons". Nukes are not built for display

ASEAN : ASEAN will continue to grow at their own paces as trade wars force relocation of industries & China's costs creep upwards. Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam have competitive advantages. Malaysia need to wade through her political sting but all shalt be well. Cambodia needs to reposition herself while Myanmar must settles her internal issues. Brunei remains safe & stable whilst Singapore cannot afford to stumble, both within & out. Indonesia looks most promising

2023 will remain challenging as egos & schemers try to outdo and outwit another. In the same breath, they will eliminate one another; when all passes, the (new) world will be a better place for all

I remain positive that all will ends well. Be prepared, be ready & when opportunity presents, pounce

Take shorter term of views and be prepared to eject & change course

The stress in life comes from not being able to get what you want (the desired results) within your anointed time

It is not about studying. getting trained, be armed with the necessary skills or simply, just being on time and be there. It is the magical thing called "luck" 天时地利人和 还需要幸运

"That guy is lucky", many quipped - born lucky, the stroke of luck, change of fortunes

A winner is a WINNER by any other definition

MainStreet versus WallStreet : is it luck or skills that turn in profits? It's plentiful of hard work & skills bathe with luck - in a bull market, even the fools make money

Market's direction is often distorted by money hoard - the cartelier can control the market in the short term

The 4-years Cycle call for the market to turn down in 2023, plausibly bottoming out in 2024/5 [previous critical lows can be seen in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020]

Was there a major 10-years Cycle low in 2017/18? Previous 10-years Cycle lows happened in 1987/88, 1997/98, 2007/08 

Kondratieff Theory : Kondratieff Wave, named after Russian economist Nikolai Kondratieff, refers to cycles, lasting about 40 to 60 years, experienced by capitalist economies.

COVID, together with trade wars, have paralyzed global trades and distorted commodities prices which are made worse by disruption in logistics. Inflation sharply reduced real purchasing power.

The slower but recovering economies, post COVID easing, will be disrupted by increasing interest rates (to damp inflationary pressures); the world is experiencing a Cost-push inflation with an underlying fear that too much fiscal controls will push everyone into a recession

For those who have made (enough) monies in the capital markets, be guarded & take some out to enjoy. The lead-lag time is shortening. Anyone who try to outwit & outperform the market (long & short), timing is the key; be disciplined

For reasons of shortages and the disruption of supplies, I favor commodities or commodity-centric companies

What will 2023 brings? Fortunes favor the brave

Do your homework & cut the cloth to fit the suit - from zero to zero is zero! Build up the fats

If you are starting from nothing but a job (in-hand), put your heart and soul into it & give it your best shot. In the meantime, acquire another skill or a further paper

If you are in business, move away from orthodox 'brick & mortar' approaches and suffuse eSolutions. Be asset & costs light but share your earnings with your staffs by rewarding performances. Your goal-getting manpower is worth every cents deployed.

If you are a trader, impose "tight-stops" but ride the trends; when in doubt, stay out

Aboveall, be prepared, be ready, be forearmed ...be humble. Pounce when the opportunity presents

For every $100 you have, put aside $50 to stabilize the home front & get a peace of mind, $30 invest wisely and the balance $20 is for games, gaming & speculation; you never know!  Choose the asset class(es) that suit your needs

Let us not worry too much about nuke wars and war mongering. If nukes fly & the world ends, we will meet again in the other worlds - Heaven or Hell. 

Leave everything that is beyond our influence and control and allow the future to manifest [If you had been worrying after COVID broke out & do nothing, you've lost more than 1,000 days]

End 2019 heralded the scares of COVID that hounded the world & by 1Q, 2020, the world was paralysed and locked down

Never had it that countries' borders were closed & intra travels were banned 

However, after two years, the environment clears and cleans - flora & fauna flourished, animals regain spaces & multiply and the world slowed...

Global trades were further hampered by trade sanctions, disruptions to logistics, border lockdowns and wars and warmongering 

Fast forward and the world opens slowly by 3Q, 2022 - COVID remains a threat & contagious but was less fatal following which the desire for freedom outweighs the threat of deaths - people start to rebel against lockdowns and quarantines

Economies slowed, businesses folded, jobs & opportunities were getting scarce; the hungry man is an angry man

Cost push inflation, fueled by/with increase taxes, added further woes to the decline in real purchasing power due to unemployment, underemployment and stagnant wages

Internet, work#from#home, eCommerce, eBanking, eCoins & FinTech, deliveries & the gig economy replaced brick & mortar olde businesses & practices in the past 3 years    

There is HOPE

Scams were also made easier with internet - eScams robbed many, including sovereign funds, institutions, the educated & the sundries

Nothing much have changed over the years - many are still hoping "tomorrow will be better"

The lockdowns were chances to upskill & move on & ahead as the world leveled down 

However, the only constant is CHANGE and few grab the opportunity

What will the new year holds? Many and almost every resolutions and hopes were repeated like broken records... "I Will... I Want to... I wish... "

No CHANGE is No Change - nothing changes except when you change

Which came first - the chicken or the egg? Does it really matters so long as the means meet the ends? STOP wasting time over unnecessary questions

The world will never be better if you asked (a question) for the sake of asking

The greedy, selfish, 'gaslighters' & liars will answer a/any question(s) with a question & make you feel inferior & inadequate

They will fan ostracism & their cronies will pile in like vultures to dead bodies - making a meal out of you

Destroying you to eliminate dares and challenges 杀鸡儆猴

If you don't raise question when in doubt but remain pliant & swallow the bitter pill, you're an accomplice who deserves to be fried & crucified

What have you achieved in this whole year(2022), let alone during the leveled down years of 2020-2021? Earth will continues rotating & time will pass whether you change or remain

It is made worse by threats to use nukes, to use force and to dictate others lives

People are more impatient, less tolerant, with shorter fuse to implosion yet bathe with greed, self entitlement and demanding

The need to achieve and dominate have created creatures of demonic demands; it's my way or highway

It is best to stay afar from the eccentricities and temperaments of lesser friends & acquaintances

DJIA almost tripled after 2010; fortunes favor the brave

But, Main Street is not mirroring the Wall Street

Billionaires are bore out of the new economy industries while the brick and mortar businesses are eking out on thin margins

The temperament of the market is volatile & its swing wilder

Fortune favors the brave

The US$ has strengthened against almost all currencies and this broods 

I am bullish on gold with current range between US$1,600-1,900...once, US$2,200 breaks, we will see new highs like the Gold Standard days

On balance, I am positive on commodities, especially gold and soft commodities

Scarcity is the root of inflation

The US stockmarket/DJIA is defying common rules where rise in interest rates lead to further rise in DJIA. Why? It's because smartmoney is looking for both, capital gains and currency appreciation

I speculate that the major alternative currencies to US$ currency will recover lost grounds in the next couple of months as Asia stabilizes

How fast can you race/speed? The winner is the one with the guts, not just engine capacity. Similarly, if you want to win, fight like there is no tomorrow

I am not surprise that the Russian/Ukraine war will escalate but if more nations are drag into the conflict, the damages will be worse, nukes included

When the world must end, we will meet again in Heaven or Hell but if Hell, the underground neatherland, is blown out by nukes, everyone will still meet ... in Heaven

Go all out to chase and crystallize your dreams; no holds bar

If COVID doesn't kill you, nukes may! But, if you survive both, you better live to tell a story
